Hungry Girl Recipes...YUMMY, too much sodium!?

I've really been enjoying the Hungry Girl 300 recipes for under 300 cookbook. My kids enjoy them (as long as I omit any thing spicy, cajun and chili spices!), and my hubby does too. I appreciate the low calorie, high fiber and low fat recipes, however the sodium is incredibly HIGH in a majority of these recipes.

Anybody else in the same boat? What's your solution?

Here are a few of my FAVORITES! I wouldn't post if i didn't think they were INSANELY delicious...but, they ARE!! :-)

I do find that a lot of her recipes are high in sodium. I guess it depends in the recipe as to what the solution could be. I watched 2 of her shows tonight and she added salt to everything. However, added salt does not comprise most of the high sodium in foods that we eat. It is usually processed foods.

Personally, salt does not bother me. In fact, my blood pressure is low, too low, at times. Increasing sodium intake can sometimes help with this.

She also uses way more raw onions than I like. Otherwise, I have really liked most of her recipes that I have tried. Thank you for sharing the ones you like. I love getting recommendations.

She has some great recipes, but uses way too much processed food for everyday eating for me! I do love to pull them out for a treat, or when I need an appy or have a craving, since her swaps are usually way lower calorie than the restaurant versions of things.

I use Hungry Girl to help spark inspiration. Then I re-do her recipes to get rid of the processed stuff and swap in low sodium products for the higher sodium stuff she uses.

I've gotten a few good standards from using her recipes/ideas as inspiration to make my own dish. But yeah, her stuff straight up is was processed and sodium-filled.

Someone actually got me two of her books as a gift when they first heard that I was starting watch what i was eating. Once I saw that she had an entire chapter devoted to Cool Whip recipes, I pretty much stopped reading. Blech.
