its more than possible. all those activities you mention burn calories, and the hrm will work out cals burned by your rise in heart rate. i would still go to the gym, as you said you usually do all those activities so you have to go the extra mile to lose the weight- burn those calories at the gym!! lol!!

I haven't purchased a hrm yet, but I definitely want one soon.

I know that in general, your body will use up calories simply by existing; breathing, circulating blood, thinking. That's why you have to eat a minimum of 1200 calories a day, to make up for the fuel your body needs to simply exist.

The fact that you burned not much more than 1200 calories over almost 9 hours is pretty believable, but the majority of it is already taken into account in the daily calories that you've already been given when you started here when you put in your height and weight and general lifestyle.

If I were in your position I would not log those calories and take it as just being your daily calorie usage. When you work out, however, those are calories burned in ADDITION to your "existing" calorie usage. So you should definitely log that.

Hope this helps! Message or friend me if you want to talk more ^_^

Oh hey what kind of hrm did you get? I'm not sure what brand to buy for myself and I want to get some reviews. :)

I think HRMs are only accurate if you start them directly before you start exercising and stop it exactly when you finish, because it's in addition to the 1500 ish cals you burn every day from being alive anyway.

yes you are right !! i bought mine so i can really get an accurate answer on how many calories i burn when i go to the gym (if this is accurate) so ill compare it to the elliptical trainer on all those machine s that give you a calorie count .....thank you

I want a HRM and live in Australia. Do you have to enter details about yourself in the HRM?

    Jennifer,

There would be a few variables. One would be if the data input was accurate - entering your age and your current weight. I've had my monitor for awhile and have to remind myself to re-set it each time I lose a few pounds. I know yours is new, but it is important that the data be accurate.

The other thing I've learned is that high intensity cardio work, interval - even just a few minutes - can super-set your calorie burn for an extended period of time (24-36 hours). It is possible that your activities were more intense that you realized?

Good Luck to you on your journey to become the most healthy you possible!

Did it ask you to perform a "fitness test?" This measures what kind of shape you (resting heart rate vs a specific exercise) are in and helps determine calories burned. I recalibrate mine every 6 weeks or so and my calories burned basically go down every time I recalibrate it. Please read your manual to set it up correctly.

after putting all my data it told me that my rest hr was 60 and my maximum should be 185...is that what your talking about ?

Mine actually took my resting hr and then had me perform exercises (stepping up and down a stair for 1 minute). I am guessing it was measuring my fitness level. Then it produces some number called the VO2 max.
