Do you have this HRM problem?

For the most part I love my HRM. (Polar FT4). I have one issue. On Tuesdays and Thursdays my work out consists of a "boot camp" style workout. Our group is military so thats not too far off. This workout often consists of a lot of ab work, done so it is cardio too. The issue I have is that often when doing ab work on my back the HRM seeks to lose connection. I will be working my butt off and it will say my heart rate is in the 90s. I will stand up for our 20-40 second break betweeen sets and it will jump up to the 140 range. I hate that I am loosing out on an accurate reading of my caloroes burned.

I was wondering if this happens to anyone else.

Yep, tighten the strap, then tighten it again, then if you think it is tight enough, tighten it some more. Used to happen to me with my FT7 and drove me crazy. Tightening it up made it work like new. If I were a betting man, I'd say you've had it under 6 months.

Even when doing the Cardio Abs workout in INSANITY, my heart rate would stay in the 130's. Hope this helps.

If you are still getting a reading its not losing connection. One of two things, first make sure its tight enough around your chest. Second, I don't believe the F4 is coded so if anyone else has a HRM there could be cross talk problems. Third, if you are really fit this may be accurate (which cardiovascally is a good thing.) I'm still pretty heavy but exercise frequently and when I lay down for exercises my heart rate drops greatly. The faster you heart rate returns to normal the healthier you are.
  • Nope, I have the same HRM and I can do anything with it and it stays engaged. It never goes from 90s up to 140s like what you are talking about and I use it when I'm doing my boot camp type workouts (abs, pushups, and then up doing squats, etc). As a matter of fact and this is probably because I still have alot to lose, my heart rate stays "in the zone" no matter which part of the exercise I'm doing.

Oh also, if you haven't washed the strap lately, wash it, it effects the reading.

Maybe losing connection was not the correct wording, but seems to be not registering all the beats. I dont think it is recovery or the Heart rate would not jump up 40-50 beats just by standing up or even moving from the back to a push up position.

No one else in group using HRM.

Yep, forgot to mention that. Also I soak my strap for about a minute before putting it on. Just running under the water didn't seem to get it wet enough.
