Hi all, I am a female 5' 5" and I currently weigh 159 and want to get down to 135. I was wondering if anyone has any info on taking protein shots or protein powder. I want to lose fat but also build a little muscle (I don't want to look like the hulk). Is this something that I should drink after a weight workout? I do 30-45 minutes of cardio in the morning and 30-60 minutes of weight training in the afternoons. I am doing very well using MFP for my meals.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • I use protein powder in my shakes for a meal supplement once a day. Its a great high protein, low carb meal. I use many ingredients in my shakes. Sometimes i throw oatmeal and peanut butter, sometimes i use fruit. There are tons of different receipes you can try. Using protein powder will not bulk you up as long as you are using it as a meal replacement and not a supplement added onto your meal.

I just came off a month eating 50% protein, quite a bit of it coming from different types of protein powders ... It wont bulk you up, even with heavy strength training. It's really difficult to do on a calorie deficit. You can tone and activate muscles you already have, but that's about it.

I use protein powder. I am a 54 year old male and TRY to put on muscle mass. It is very difficult for me, so please don't worry about bulking up. At most you will look "toned".
