Calorie Intake, Weight Loss, AND Breastfeeding

Help! My son is 2 months old and EBF (exclusively breast fed). I'm confused how many calories breastfeeding burns. When I enter it in on my food diary, it shows 300-500 calories. To me, 500 seems a bit overestimated - even if you're EBF. Should I just enter in 300 to be safe? I'm also scared to lose too much weight and have it effect my milk supply. That being said, I have about 15 lbs to lose to be at pre-pregnancy weight and an additional 10-15 more to be to my goal weight. What should I set my pounds loss per week to? Advice? Words of Wisdom?

Thank you so much for asking! I have the same question. My baby is also 2 months but I have a lot of weight to lose. I'm so confused about how much more I should be eating. Any help with this is appreciated.0

Hi there! I am a mommy to 7 & our newest addition is 6 months old & EBF. I have always added about 500 calories to my daily allowance and tend to lose 1 to 1.5 a week. As long as I drink a LOT of water, my supply seems to maintain. With one baby, my supply did slow down a bit, but I took Fenugreek for a couple of weeks & it went right back to normal. I have lost all the baby weight, but now I'd really like to lose about 8 more pounds to get back to the weight I was when my hubby & I got married. I am 5'10 & weigh 153. My ultimate goal is 145.0

if you are ebf as no solids and no formula you burn 500 cals a day this is fact and you need to allow yourself the extra cals
edited to add the recommended weight loss per week when bf is the same as when not 1-2 lbs a week
there is no reason why losing weight should affect your milk supply unless you are losing too much too quickly
if you have any other bf questions i highly recommend going onto rollercoaster.ie the ladies there are expert literally and will be able to help.
