Diet Soda v. Regular Soda

This was probably asked before, but please bear with me -
Of course, NO soda would be ideal, but when it comes to regular soda v. diet soda, what's your take?
For example -
Dr. Pepper has 100 calories per serving. Diet Dr. Pepper has 0.
Can I eat those extra 100 calories if I have Diet Dr. Pepper, or should I be logging diet soda as if it were regular to offset the negative effects of diet soda we hear so much about?
