Cheat days?

I've been thinking about giving myself one "Cheat" day per week. Here are my reasonings.
In the past, whenever I have dieted, I have felt deprived of my favorite foods including pizza and cheesecake. I know there are healthy alternatives for these, but it's just not the same. I've always stuck to my diet for a month or so, and then gave up because I was tired of not being able to eat what I wanted. I figure as long as I eat healthy all week and stay under my 1200 calories, I should be allowed a "cheat" day. I know that I will not lose weight at quickly as I want but I don't want to deprive myself of my favorites and end up quitting. I figure I will eat around 2000 calories for that one day and beef up my exerise for the weekend.

What are your thoughts???

I do a "cheat" meal a week. It's easy to pass on things when I know I get to eat whatever I want for a meal. For me, a whole day is too much. I have a problem with labeling a day "good" "bad" and not just having a balance. So a meal promotes my living as a healthy person, so I don't ever gain this weight again.

I think it sounds like a good idea.

I do pretty much the same thing. I don't plan them but I know that most weekends I'm going to eat and drink more then I do when I'm sitting in an office all day. So I eat less during the week and it averages out.

I'm experimenting with that this week actually. I had some cheat snacks this weekend. (no bake cookies, yum). But I am going to try to come in a little lower on my daily calorie goal the rest of the week. So my average for the week should be at my 2000 calories a day.

don't know what the result will be...

Awesome. Thank you all for replying. Let me start off by saying that I do not have bad food habits. I graduated from culinary school and am very cautious of what I eat. I would love to be able to go out once a week and have dinner and dessert. :) that's all!
I was just curious if others were doing it and if they noticed it slowed down the rate at which they were losing weight.

For the most part, I have a splurge meal/treat on the weekends. It helps me keep in check and avoid binges throughout the week.

Just make sure you're netting at least 1200 otherwise though! That's a minimum number, like a speed limit.

Haha yes. Most days I am able to eat right around 1200 calories, not much over and almost never under. Last night I was under because I woke up late and just wasn't terribly hungry all day. :(
