Does anyone have any comments on 'the biggest loser'?

I do not watch the biggest loser series every week, but when i do find it interesting. In particular the huge (weekly?) weight loses posted by contestants. I know that the show is quick to point out the medical supervision and 'don't do this at home' approach. The episides that i have watched do not go into detail on daily food intake etc. i know it's a show and is geared for entertainment but most people want to lose weight as quickly and safely as possible. I wonder how much i could lose if i didn't have to work and could focus purely on training and diet? Also i look at some of he exercises and wonder if they would not just do better just cycling or walking all day long. I wpuld be interested in comments on monster weight loss techniques (i am not encouraging this and would urge a sensible sustainable approach is best). One contestant lost 21lbs in a week!

I think they eat super low-carb for the most part (baked fish, very lean meat and salad, etc.) and burn more calories working out than they eat in a day. When you start out with that much weight to lose, it can literally fall off with just the significant reduction in carbs and a little bit of sweat (e.g. my scale showed an 8 lb. loss in 2 days after eating very few carbs for a 48 hour period).
