I'm 21, and I really want to start dancing. I'm not flexible at all. I plan to maybe start with a ballet class, and of course do some yoga, swimming, and pilates to get my body ready. my question is:
how long have you been dancing?
what would you think of someone my age starting dancing?

I've been dancing on and off my whole life. I stopped in HS and started again in college. Stopped again and I started again about a year before I got married. I was 24 in a class with mostly 7th, 8th and 9th graders--doing hip hop! I also took jazz and ballet as well, but I didn't feel nearly as awkward with the age difference in those classes.
I think you are never to old to dance. I feel it is inate and a natural form of movement, it is just the art of ballet, etc that has you "train" for proper form. Kind of like running. Everyone can run--it is just a matter of how trained you are, etc.
As for flexibility-it will come in time with classes. Just be careful and don't stretch so far you tear a muscle.

thanks for the inspiration :) i agree, it feels innate and natural! it is definitely a form of self-expression (as any art is), so i just hope i don't get made fun of or something because that's not right!
