I really love my pasta but I have this fear that eating it now will make me gain weight as it is so high in carbs. Can I eat a small portion of wholemeal pasta with some tomato sauce? I'm trying to do the 1200 calorie diet.

Despite what some disingenuous people may tell you, it is still excess calories that make you gain weight, not just carbs. So if you are in a caloric deficit you can eat pasta without you gaining fat. However if you were to step on the scale the next day you may see a slight increase due to you holding onto a bit more water from the carbs0 -
You can eat any food that you like as long as you pay attention to portion sizes. It's not the kind of food that makes you gain weight, it's the amount of it that you eat (I know, I know, lots of people swear that carbs MAKE them gain weight, but I don't think a moderate serve of wholemeal pasta is going to negate the rest of your healthy eating day).
If you like pasta, eat it. Log the calories and you'll be fine.0 -
I am saddened by this.
Guess what, you can eat non-wholemeal pasta and lose weight.0 -

If you've been dieting a while, you'll likely gain water weight from eating a higher intake of carbs than your body is used to. But, with that being said, as long as you stay under your calories, you'll lose weight in the long run.
Don't confuse water weight with fat weight.0 -
wholegrain pasta can be part of a healthy diet. As a vegetarian, I eat a lot of pasta and other grains. I have no problem losing weight when I stick to a healthy diet (including pasta). They key is to measure it out, and stay inside your calories. A portion on the back on the box gives you A LOT of pasta. So much, that I was sick by the time I was finished (I still had a thing for finishing everything on my plate--I am getting better at that). If you cut the portion in half (42.5 grams according to my box), then you get a satisfying plate full for about 145 calories (plus whatever you add to it). How can you not lose if you are eating things like that within your calorie range?0
