Olives

Hi,
Can anyone answer this? I have been eating small green olives in brine as a snack. I know 20 olives is about 80 calories but they also contain a lot of fat. Altough I know this is healthy fat what I don't know is if I am hindering my weight loss by eating these instead of another 80 cal snack?
Hope this makes sense

Olives are extremely high in sodium, so I would eat them sparingly. Not that sodium is inherently bad, but too much makes me retain water like nobody's business.0

I love olives too!
Just found this information - http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=46
Hope it helps :flowerforyou:0 -
I find eating a few olives is better than eating 2 cookies. It's the sugar that puts on my weight and after I eat 1 cookie, I am then looking for more sugar! Maybe use them as a reward! I treat myself to a fudge drumstick every Friday evening

I don't think your hindering yourself at all unless you're going over your calorie allotment. I wouldn't be afraid of fats, especially the good ones. If you enjoy them, have them.0 -
I have a salty tooth.
I can easily eat a jar of peanuts in a few minutes.
I eat Olives for snacks too.
I have started buying the large UNPITTED Olives.
The unpitted ones take longer to eat so I dont gobble them up.0 -
This is a much better choice than say, 80 calories worth of crackers. It will keep you satiated better because of the healthy fats. I love kalamata olives with the pits in them. They're big so I usually eat 8-10 of them and its a great snack.0

I like using olives as a reward because i could sit and eat a whole jar if i wanted too. However i don't 80 calories a day is hindering your weight loss. i just could eat like my body weight in green olives a day.0 -
Thanks for the replies
I also could probably eat my body weight in olives but think I will alternate days so I'm not getting too much sodium. Will have to find something else to satisfy my savoury tooth in the meantime!0
