Hey guys,
I am new to the site and haven't ever really regularly worked out. I have radically changed my diet and cut out all of the fast food and sweets. My big question is this, if I run on the treadmill at the gym my knees really start to ache. However, I can walk briskly on an incline with no problems. Is walking briskly at a steep incline just as good for you as running with no incline?

Walking briskly with an incline is better for you than running with no incline.0

I would also recommend you go to your local running store and have them fit you with shoes. Even if you do not run, there are runing shoes that can give you the shock resistance that (I suspect) you need.
Good luck!

I wish it were that simple for me. I wear a size 15 and have to order my shoes online :ohwell:I would also recommend you go to your local running store and have them fit you with shoes. Even if you do not run, there are runing shoes that can give you the shock resistance that (I suspect) you need.

Start small with workouts.
Let your body adjust to working out before you trying to run it in high gear. :flowerforyou:
Walk, with or without an incline. Just start small and add a little bit.
Listen to your body. You will build up to running quickly, I'm sure.0 -
Hey congrats on making positive healthy changes!I agree that you need to listen to your body and start slow then add more gradually.I know it's no fun to go slow and wait but it's better than getting hurt and having to stop.Don't forget to stretch.Stay safe and good luck! Rose0

Sorry it took me so long to respond Mkoff32..I was out of town all weekend. If you are unable to "order off the rack", I would strongly suggest you see a sports med/foot doc, so he/she/they can order you inserts for shoes that may give your feet the support and motion control, which may be contributing to your knee pain.
Best of luck to you in the pursuit or your new, healthy lifestyle!!!
