I'm trying to stay within a 1200 calorie diet, which isn't too miserable, but I keep going over my carbs and protein around 800 calories, what should I do? More veggies?

I would say you can never get too much protein in my opinion. Protein keeps you full longer so you don't want to eat much crap.
Are the carbs empty carbs that you're eating? It won't take long for empty carbs to add up. I myself don't give much mind to if I go over on my carbs one day or so. It all evens out for me. I don't think there is anything bad you'll gain from adding more fruits and vegetables into your diet though they will have natural carbs in them.
Good Luck!0 -
I am new to this and having the same problem.. I am used to eating more protein. My goal is to just stay within the 1200 cal more than anything and make healthier choices.0

I've seen some different diets that categorize you into different metabolic types, and allow you to eat a different ratio than MFP suggests... I know very little about it, but try googling it?
I'm over on my protein all the time..... Try more fruits and veggies if it bugs you :flowerforyou:0 -

actually if you give your body too much of anything even if its Protein can make you gain weight-
If you take in more Protein than your body needs whatever else your body will store as fat.
With that said - MFP's macro nutrient values are a bit low- You can customize it to your needs0 -
so considering there are only 3 macro-nutrients to choose from, you must be way under in fats, right? I mean it's mathmatically impossible to be under all three and still hit your calories. So make sure you're getting your fats in too. Don't buy into all the crap about fats being bad, they aren't, no worse then carbs or protein. SATURATED fats are bad, and hydrogenated oils are bad, but fats (by fats I mean omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids) are extremely important as well.
if you make sure to plan out your meals for a few weeks (I used to do my macro-nutrient plans once a week for the week) you'll get the hang of it, and eventually you won't need to write it down.0 -
You can change your settings to allow for more protein. And yeah, be sure you're getting good fat too, around 15-20% is good.0

15% is a bit low- I would go with 20-30% for Good Fats0
