From Walking to Running

I have been walking at least three mornings a week for the past few months, and think that I am at the point that I want to add some running. I would say that I don't like to run -- but, honestly - I have not run since I finished my time in the Army! Any advice on how to start this? I want this journey to be something that I can stick with.

When I went from walking to running, I did c25k. It was a great program that helped me transition. Easy to follow and it made me a runner. I had never run prior to the program.

    c25k - couch to 5 k

its an app you can get (or just google it and many ppeople have posted the workouts) but it starts off with like 4 minutes walking and 1 minute jogging overtime increases the jogging/decreases the walking. I think programs like this work a lot better for novice runners rather then just picking up and trying to run a mile on day 1

Here is a link with 3 training schedules for completing a 10km race, how to walk, how to run, how to run faster. Might be a helpful place to start.

I thought about doing this...and still thinking about it. I would love to be able to do a 5k at some point here in the near future. It would be a tremendous accomplishment for me!
  • There is a 5k in our town in July.... I would love to be able to participate, either walking or running. We can do this!
