Running Injury - Adductors

I have been recovering from an overuse injury. I did the beginners thing and pushed through the pain a little too much and did for probably 3 weeks before I got bad enough to realize I was doing damage.

Okay so I am about 3 weeks in to recovery and have started doing slow jogs with walking intervals. I still feel tinges of pain and can feel a little strain here and there but nothing that lasts more than soreness the next day.

I am getting so antsy to run a long run again and have printed programs to follow so I don't injure myself again.

My question, has anyone else had this injury? How long was your healing time?

I have also started the transition to minimist shoes in Vibram 5 fingers, I do love them and I reaaaallly want to run in them...faster and further than I can right now.

Any good healing tips aside from the RICE method and maybe soaking in epsom salts?

Are you sure it is your adductors? Just curious as that is an odd thing to injure. I have had a slight groin/hip flexor issue for a couple months now. lifting helps as does rest but it isn't too bad. I have been told that icing it is not advised and rolling shouldn't be done if it is really paining.

Positive it's the adductors... I have been icing after exercise as well as elevatiing for 15 minutes and using a heating pad in the evening.

Sorry, no personal experience with adductor injuries but here's a link to an article on runners world with a stretch that may help prevent a re-injury....

Again - sorry to not have an answer to your injury issue. BUT - I switched to minimalist shoes (kinda - Nike Free 3.0) early in my running career and think it's the best way to go. I had to slow waaaaaaay down though to get use to them. Down on miles and down on speed. You need time to build up those unused foot muscles and learn to land softly. It's worth it in the long run. (Haha)

I have dealt with injury before, and you've got to give yourself time to recover. Taking some time off running is better than not running at all because you've screwed something up permanently.

Yeah I thought I would just have to wait it out. :( I've done so many searches and it's always the same, rest it! LOL

Thanks for the answeres and the link. I so love runners world.

Birdy, I love the new shoes and have been wearing them for a few weeks now. This past week I have transitioned to outside (nice weather) and have been doing very slow intervals in them. They feel great and I can;t wait to doa few miles after a little more breaking in.

My boss is in his 60s and has run his whole life, he said he had a knee problem that went away when he switched to minimist shoes. Pretty amazing!
