Hi All,
I'm relatively new here and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Kenny, 35 years old from the Los Angeles area (Torrance). I've happily lost 14 pounds over the last 3 weeks doing Power 90 and watching my calories via MFP.
Back story:
I've struggled with my weight pretty much my entire adult life. When I was a kid, I wasn't too big -- chubby and out of shape though. At 17 I lost a lot of weight while I was battling depression and panic attacks (not a good way to lose weight) and was actually very thin. But as an adult, I just kept packing on the pounds year after year. At about 26, when I got engaged to my wife, I was about 300 pounds (I'm 6'3"). I managed to lose 50 pounds before the wedding doing Atkins (and not exercising). After the wedding, I went back to my old eating habits (and sedentary lifestyle) and last year I tipped the scales at 373 pounds! A few months before the year end, I started walking more and eating better and my weight went down and fluctuated a bit. When I weighed myself 3 weeks ago, I was 361 pounds. As of yesterday, I'm about 347. I realized that my vague goals and plans weren't not very helpful. Simply saying, "I'll try to eat better" or "I'll try to walk more" were not cutting it. I needed a plan and a real commitment. I also was never really attempting to finally try to lose it all. It was always vaguely, "I need to lose weight."
Looking forward:
Now I have a goal and a plan and tools (thanks to MFP). Now I just need to endure it to the end. I'm trying hard to keep what I'm doing sustainable for a long time. Power 90 is doable -- even 6 days a week. Giving myself a 1000 calorie deficit (with the exercise) daily is doable. I'm not starving. I'm even eating things I want on occasion, but in moderation. If I can manage an average of 2 lbs a week, I can hit my goal in 17 months, my engagement weight in under 6 months, and my wedding weight in less than a year.
