HRM band - Girl issues

I am going to be getting a Garmin Forerunner 405. My dad let me borrow his to try out. I put the HRM band on under my breasts like you are supposed to. I feel like it kind of interfered with my sports bra. The HRM picked up my heart rate but only a couple of seconds. I had to press buttons and mess around for it to get picked up again. I put the band under my bra, an inch or two down my body from my bra, etc and no matter what I did I couldn't get the stupid thing to keep my heart rate.

Anyone else have this problem?

I've had issues with my chest strap for the Polar FT7 I have, but the way that it works the best for me is to tighten it even more than I think it might need to be and to have it about 2 inches below my sports bra. Once in a while, it still messes up, but that's how I can get mine to work almost all of the time.

Did you wet the strap before you put it on? If you put it on dry, it can't pick up your heartbeat.

Agree with this! This was the most surprising thing I learned when I bought my new hrm. I didn't realize you had to wet it!

I have the new polar strap, and it's AMAZING. My old one wasn't as good, by a long shot. http://www.polarusa.com/us-en/products/accessories/WearLink_transmitter

There's also this as an option: http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Cardio-Sports-Bra/dp/B001RIIITE

I don't have this problem, mainly because I'm bad. I'm a dd and I don't wear a sports bra, I have a tight vest top and then another vest top with support, because of this I've found no problems with the chest strap, my breasts rest over it a bit and it picks up my heart rate fine and I'm pretty well supported with the tops which helps to hold it in place. The sports bra I do have sits fairly low on my back anyway, like a crop top, so I wouldn't imagine a problem with it.

I was very surprise at how well my Garmin 405 chest strap works when it sits below (ie. next to) the band of my bra.
The only time I've had a problem is when I had it on while I was driving (I was curious to see my heart rate when I was not moving much) but it didn't pick it up - sadly that was because of the rolls of fat and/ or skin that meant it slid up on top of my bra. As soon as I moved it down a bit it worked ok again.
And yes, definitely wet the strap where the sensors are.

I use a HRM with my Garmin Forerunner 610. I have huge boobies and wear TWO sports bras when I run. Even with the twins I don't have any problems with the band. And it picks up my heart rate very easily and accurately as soon as I put it on.

Are you using the standard HRM or the premium (soft band) HRM? That may make a difference. If you're using the premium band, make sure that the elastic in the band hasn't gotten old and dried out.

I have no issues with my HRM strap (use the Forerunner 305) and I never wet it. Picks up my HR just fine. I put it right below the band of my sports bra. I don't notice it's there either once I have it on.

I have a problem with my polar HRM when I do something really high impact (jumping, like jumping jacks, running man, etc.). Otherwise it works fine...
