Over-Pronantion?

I went to a running store today to look into buying some shoes and it turns out I have a pretty moderate/slightly severe over-pronation in my stride. It seemed like the only shoes I could buy to correct it were $100-$120. :( While I believe it's worth the money to buy good running shoes I just don't have that much cash to shell out. I could save it up but it would take quite awhile and I want to start hitting the trail asap.

Does anyone know of a good place to buy a good pair of supportive shoes for less? Or do I just have to wait and save up little by little?

While there are several foot step variations out there, I don't think at a running store your going to find a whole lot of options for under 100.00, it's not your pronation talking here.

This is just the cost for good footwear. However, having said that you cannot go wrong with walking/running shoes. They fit as good as year olds on day one.

Invest in the shoes. Try at least a single pair and your feet, will thank you for it. You might even walk out of the decision, finding a new love to be on your feet all the time.

As an alternative, you can cruise older models on places like amazon. You usually can find older model shoes for a little less. I would really do your research first though before doing this. As they do change things regularly enough that if you tried a series 9 on and loved them, so you go to buy an 8 or 7 series... to be disappointed they changed something that it's not what you thought. But there are times that they are the exact same! just different colors.

I personally love Brookes, I have several pairs, mainly the cascadia 6s are my favs so far.

While I was in the store I tried on a bunch of different pairs and I fell in love with a pair of newer model asics for $119. I suppose I'll just have to save the money for my shoes. I was just hoping there was some magical discount website where I could get them for less. :P No luck!

If you cruise their website, when new models come out they usually drastically cut the price of the olds. The goods on this is that they change models a couple times a year...

I just found my cascadias on sale for 70 something, new. I bought the last ones for 110.00 just couple months ago. All the runners I know usually find a couple pairs they dig, and buy then whenever they see them on sale somewhere. Good luck!

What shoe did they recommend? You can often find them cheaper online.

Hi, Try looking on www.endless.com. I'm in New Zealand and they are sooooo much cheaper to buy online from endless in The States. Having said that, they are still about $100US for this season's but they'd cost upwards on $300 to buy here. I also pronate and buy asics 21...range. This years are 2170, last years 2160 etc. You can definitely get previous year's models cheaper online, particularly if you're not fussy about colour.

I noticed a few people suggesting various shoes. This is well and all. However, think "run with pronation" versus run "against" pronation. Generally your stride will not be "corrected" in a sense because there is nothing wrong with it. Over 40% of all runners over pronate. I myself over pronate and I have tried a variety of the Nike+ model shoes. In no particular sense of attacking my tendency to over pronate.

It is true that it is best to invest good money into a pair of running/walking shoes, but I do not believe it needs to be $100+ in order to do so. I've found much comfort in a variety of Nike+ shoes (and soon Asics) around the $55-75 dollar price range. I also recommend looking online, to get a few ideas. It never hurts to go to a shoe/sports store to try a few brands on to get a feel for how their sizes run.

www.6pm.com is an awesome website for running shoes/apparel

    Best of Luck! :drinker:

    http://www.amazon.com/ASICS-Gel-3030-Running-White-Black/dp/B004DEPP1S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332316544&sr=8-1

That was the shoe I tried on and that felt the best. They didn't have it in a womans size so mens it was.

What about some orthotics that you can buy over the counter? Or just find some shoes with good instep support - you can find cheaper ones that still have a good instep support.

Could you go to a podiatrist to have them check your feet?

I think it cost about $160 for my daughter to be viewed and have orthotics made for her personal feet. She was pronating, and if you get your feet properly dealt to they are levelled back up properly and can grow the right muscle, thereby no longer needing orthotics.

It is the best thing to do.

She moves her orthotics from shoe to shoe. All the shoes we buy her have the ability to remove the innersole - we then just slip the orthotic in.

    Well worth it.

I think good shoes are worth waiting for... I just wish I could get a pair for under $200, shoes and clothes in the US are CHEAP!!!
Sorry, this doesn't help but I think the idea to look online for that model to see if you can get it cheaper is a good plan.
