unit of distance of gym equipment?

hi,
last night i ran 5 somethings according to the elliptical and cycled 5 somethings according to the bikes
what unit of distance do they usually measure in as it can't be miles?!?

Usually they are set, in the U.S., to miles. It is possible that they are set to Kilometers in your gym. The gym would be able to answer that better. If it felt like you went about 3 miles on each (approximately .6 miles to the kilometer), then this would be right. Then again, maybe you just got into it and 5 miles disappeared in no time. On the bike, it's not hard to get 5 miles in easily in less than a half hour.0

even km seems too much I did 5 on the elliptical in about 10 mins.
I was trying to keep my heart rate above 170 so going pretty quick (for me!! lol) 5km seems WAY too much though!?0 -

Could be laps, but what the lap measurement is, I don't know. It varies by machine.0
