Bummed :(

I went to have my leg checked out today for the pain I've been having during/after running. They are pretty sure it is a pull in my calf muscle. Their only advice - back off on my running distance .... like only run 1/2 mile for 2-3 days per week and build up. I'm disappointed, but glad it is not something worse. I'm just bummed because I don't want to lose everything I've gained in stamina! I guess it's a great time to start the 30-day shred!

When I hurt my calf on occasion, I take a bike ride or stationary bike for a few weeks. Cutting back distance will still take a long time to heal as you still have "impact" on the calf. Not so on a bike ride. It's fluid and still works your cardio fine. Worked for me anyway! Just a tip!

Thanks for the advice :) I love riding my bike, and I have a feeling I will be riding it much more over the next few weeks. Taking my toddler with me in the baby seat adds an extra 30 + pounds and really ups the cardio :)

you could just walk.. keeps your body training for the running but also lets you heal.

I love the 30 day shred, but not sure that you would heal very fast doing it hard core.

Not sure if you have access to a pool or not but that could also help as your calf heals.

Hey, did you go to a traditional doctor or a sports medicine dr? I recently broke down and had to go because I could not live with the pain in my leg any longer. I was scared to go to a traditional dr because I knew they were going to say, take this pill and dont run. It was suggested to me that I go to sports medicine dr because they know more of what they are doing with athletic types of injuries and they will not tell you to not exercise, unless necessary.

I am going to a sports medicine dr 3x per week and he did cut my running back to 30 minutes, and that was hard but I know that it is best to heal 100% than be 80% all the time.

I know how hard it is, trust me I do. Running is my drug since I do not drink or do other drugs, lol. It seems right about the point that I start to get my runners high, I have to stop. Although he did up me by 15 minutes today.

Take care of you dear, you will not be able to care for anyone else unless you do.

I went to an orthopedic specialist. He didn't tell me not to run, but to cut way back and build up. Also, he told me that more than likely, this was partially caused by new running shoes (properly fitted at a running store) and my body wasn't used to using that muscle. He told me to wear my shoes an hour a day to help break them in.
