So I have been using MFP for a few weeks now and it seems to be working. I am always looking for new tools, however, and came across the Livestrong.com website with the My Daily Plate section. Out of curiosity, I plugged in my numbers of age, height, weight and how much I'd like to lose each week (1 1/2 pounds), which is the same I've got set for MFP. Wow, what a big difference. The Livestrong site said I should be eating 2265 calories a day, whereas MFP has me eating 1710 calories a day. Why would there be such a huge difference? Has anyone else tried that website and what did you think?

Honestly, I used My Daily Plate/Livestrong.com. I did't really get any results like I do with MFP. Also, the support you find here tops any other site out there.

Anyway, whichever you decide, good luck. Hope to see you around.

The other sites don't add exercise calories. They kinda just average what they think you will be doing and add it into your allowance.

It also puts me at a higher calorie goal -- too high, I think. I think I'd gain with those calories numbers actually. I think the problem may be with the activity levels -- the site seems to assume that everyone iwll burn the same amount of calories doing the same thing. Also, it appears to assume that your activity level will be the same everyday. At MFP, you get to adjust your activity level inthe fitness section b/c different activies/exercise burn a different amount of calories. Just my take on it. The calories given to me at MFP definitely seem to make more sense and match several other calculators I've used.

Thanks for the input everyone. I do really like MFP and will stick with that. The only thing I noticed on the Daily Plate that I really liked was that when I plugged in a food item, it told me what others liked to eat with it. So if I ate the Trader Joe's Hummus, it offered side item ideas, which was really cool.

Yeah, they probably add in some assumed exercise calories, and there can also be a difference in what they consider your normal activity level.

that is what attracted me to MFP, and kept me here. (that and the people!!:smooched: :smooched: )

On other sites you type in that you will do 60 minutes cardio 4 days a week. they add in those calories, and so it is higher.

Mike (the designer of this site) actually put this program together for himself when he was losing weight. I assume he experienced the fact we do not always do the exercise as planned, therefore set it up that we must " Work for food" as I call it!!

I get 1350 calories for the day. If I want my 1800 it takes to run this old machine, I better get my butt on that ellip or hit the pavement!!!

I know what you mean! Even the gym I used to go to :explode: was telling me to eat, like, 2000 cals a day! Are kidding me?!!! That's how I got fat to begin with! My number is 1200/day now. I NEVER hit that number because the exercising adds more cals every day. Just cause you have money (calories) in the bank, doesn't mean you have to spend it!
