What are your thoughts on the Abduction/Adduction, Leg Press, Lifts, etc at the gym? I've read conflicting theories on whether they are effective in weight loss (especially in helping the hip/butt area).

I've been told by many people that they're not the best, but I'm really not sure.
All I know is you should try doing squats & lunges. They're much more effective in my opinion!0 -
They are ok. but never should be your main leg workout... that should always be squat(unless you just cant do them).. squats just activate more muscles in the process.. also has a much greater TUT then a leg press.
as for weight loss.. leg press has absolutely no effect on it.. not sure where you heard that.
why u say abduction and adduction.. why not just say pull and push ? more related to lifting .0 -
I do wall sits. By the end of my hour workout, I've done 4 sets of 100 (50, break for 10 seconds then 50 more). Lunges hurt my knee. I haven't done squats yet.0

i'd stay away from machines if at all possible. you may think that it is safer, but they can actually do more harm than good, and your strength will suffer b/c of it.
i agree with the above poster, lunges, squats, either body weight or holding dumbbells is great to start off with. also hip thrusts with weights on your abdomen for more resistance!
good luck0 -
Since lunges hurt your knees, you could try step up lunges. I have a wooden block & just do slow paced step ups on it with dumbbells. It's easier on the knees.0

Why would you say leg press has absolutely no effect on weight loss? That's like saying that any lift you do has no effect on weight loss.0
