What would you change first?

I have been at a stand still for almost 3 weeks now.... I am not giving up but I would like to see the scale start moving again.... Would you change up your workout routine first or maybe adding a few more or a few less calories? I am at 1340 calories and I typically don't eat all of my exercise calories but try to eat at least half of them. I have been doing walking/running on the treadmill and turbo jam videos.

Id wait a full 4 weeks to change anything...also if your not already I would do 60-90 min of cardio per day with one day rest...0

Do you ever have any treat meals? I've found that when I'm stuck, if I have a meal where I'm not worried about cals, that usually kicks my weightloss back into motion.0

I would eat more of your exercise cals and add weight training. Muscle burns more cals and improves your figure!0

Ok thanks for the response. I usually do a 45 minute Turbo Jam (cardio party) and then the couch to 5K program which is 25 minutes in length. I do that every other day and on the "off" days, I try to do at least the 20 minute turbo jam workout or the ab jam workout.0 -

I was for a while and then when I stopped losing I tried to kick them. I did have a treat meal yesterday though that consisted of wedding cake. mmmmm!!!! That was the first cake that I have had since I started this lifestyle change. (turned it down about 5 other times) Oh it was SO good!
How often do you have a treat meal? Thanks so much for your feedback!0 -

I have been wanting to add weight training but I have been scared that my shape will stay the same. I will lose fat and gain muscle, which is a good thing but I want to "shrink" first. Does that make any sense? I have a smaller waist and large thighs and hips....
I was told to just work on cardio until I lose about half the weight I want to and then add in weight training. I have been dying to start lifting some weights though!
Thanks so much for the replies! I will try a combination of these things through the next few weeks and see if any of them help. :flowerforyou:0 -
I would have to agree with aprilvet and add weight training to your excercise. The only way to truly increase your metabolism, even while sleeping, is to increase your muscle mass. Muscle burns the fat and sculpts the body. So those love handles we are all suffering from will melt away not just become proportionately smaller as will be the case with cardio. Also when you reach your desired weight you will probably not do as much cardio and the weight will come back on. Weight training will eliminate the ups and downs and takes less time weekly to maintain the muscle mass to burn more calories because its burning the calories even when you are not working out. Everyone thinks they have to workout so hard to these cardio routines which definitly helps in the short term for losing weight but weight training works better in the long term and improves the look of your physic tenfold.
Check out these sites, I developed my entire training program from them and 1 month later my husband can't stop commenting on how great my body is looking.
I also watch what I eat and record it here on MFP and do a 10min cardio at the begining and 20 min cardio after my weight training. After 1 month I have lost 3 inches and 5 lbs.

One more thing, your body remembers workout routines and can become stagnate if you don't change it up. It responds less and less to the same routine after a while so always incorporate new moves or excercises to shock it and get better results.
I am not a professional just a serious researcher on topics that interest me, and having a great body is important to me.0 -
I agree with those who say to add weight training. I have incorporated weight training from day one and have been losing.
One thing to remember about muscle v. fat: muscle is more dense (smaller in volume) than fat. So, if you gain muscle while staying at the same weight, you will actually be "thinner" because you are still losing fat. Take your measurements periodically as another way to tell that you are having success. But, despite weight training, you will most likely continue to lose weight. Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water to flush any waste from your body.0 -
I "Treat meal" once a week. D and I just go out for dinner and I order whatever the heck I want for supper. Most of the time it's just a good burger or a steak or some seafood & pasta and I don't even do that much damage. I do think it helps keep my body out of the panic zone.
Cardio cardio cardio,,, I'm sold.
Don't sweat the stuck thing, at least not for a month. I was frozen @ 233 pounds forever. When it does budge you'll be down 3/4/5 pounds right away and you'll be on your way again. Just keep on keeping on.0 -
MY SCALE MOVED!!! MY SCALE MOVED!!! I am sooo super excited! I think my biggest problem was not drinking all my water everyday. I have started to drink all my water plus some. Also, I work out at night and even if I was only over 100 calories before exercise, I was still working out to burn at least 600 calories. I am now trying to aim for about 300 over each day, and working them off each day. 300 everyday, instead of 600 every other. So far so good! I just started doing the 30 day shred instead of the turbo jam. Man Jillian is BRUTAL! haha I am just so excited today though. I am finally in the 160's!!! AND I AM WEARING A PAIR OF PRE-PREGNANCY PANTS TODAY!! WOOP WOOP!!!0

And I just noticed that I am now "overweight" and not "obese".0

Dimplzz...... CONGRATS!!!!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Getting into pre-pregnancy (or any significant weight gain) pants is an AWESOME feeling:bigsmile:  I seriously think that not drinking enough water throughout the day is a huge factor in anybody's weight loss journey - can't flush the fat out if you're not hydrated!  Do we get to count the extra calories we burn running to the restroom more often?????0 -
haha ya really mcwood10.
Thanks everyone! :-D0 -

You will shrink faster with weight training than with doing cardio type training alone..............
Since muscle takes up less space than fat, buning fat by building muscle allows you to burn more calories at rest and when exercising also...........so you will boost your metabolism and allow your body more calories in the future!!
Also, you might not be stalled at all.........you should be masuring yourself and if you are losing inches, sometimes the pounds on the scale are just not showing up.
Measure your weight loss by the tape measure - NOT the scale!!!
And most importantly, How do YOU Feel???? If that answer is "I feel good", then that is what is most important.0
