I have lost now little over 42lbs and I am starting to look like the kid at school who was stuck with his Large brothers "hand me downs". problem is i still have over a 100lbs to go and do not want to buy new clothes just to buy more new clothes. What have some of the people that have lost a bunch done about clothes?

Buy from thrift stores or clearance racks. If you can sew or know someone who can, have your clothes altered. You can't keep wearing the same clothes for 142 pounds!

i started to go with plain a-line skirts with elastic, plain t-shirts, cardigans and scarfs - the skirts I just pull the elastic up(hard to find, but I only need a few basic colors, navy, black, tan, denim), t-shirts are cheap to replace (mens hanes 3 pack, white, black, gray and wash in hot to shrink) cardigans can always be worn a little big (or again wash in hot water to shrink) and any belts (from goodwill and garage sales) and scarfes are easy to mix and match (I can sew so I just buy a piece of fabric from the bargin bin at hancock fabric and put edge on it) -- i invest in nice jewlery pieces (not expensice just nice) bracelets and necklaces don't really care what size you are and they really dress up a t-shirt --- hope that helps :o)

I a pretty large guy and i do not think fellow railroaders would think much of me in a skirt, I do not have the legs for it. LOL, but thanks for helping.

LOL! It would distract everyone, though, from noticing whether or not your clothes were too big. ;)

Honestly, though, second hand clothing stores are your best friend! Once I started to look like I was floating in my current clothes (usually co-workers would just start telling me flat-out that I couldn't wear something anymore, lol,) I'd go and pick up a handful of replacements at at thrift store, knowing full well that I wouldn't be wearing them for terribly long. It works really well for those "gap sizes".

I definitely felt better about myself when I was wearing properly fitting clothing. :)

Goodwill became my favorite shopping spot WHILE I was losing weight. For relatively little money, I was able to buy enough clothes to get me through until I was able to buy clothes. I just recently replaced some of the first ones I bought after losing weight (they are now 5 years old and starting to show wear).

  • I'm at that point where I need to buy cheap clothes to get me through. I fit into a size 10 now, but bought a size 8 so that I don't waste too much money. The 8's are snug, but not super tight, so it could take a good 3 weeks before they're perfect. That is, IF I can maintain my weight loss, lol. I will be checking out thrift stores though. Don't wanna waste too much $
