Help! They are trying to kill me. I get this text message "Miss you kiddo, let's have dinner at Sirloin Stockade tonight okay?" What the heck do I eat there?!?!?! Salad?!?!?! What should I stay away from and how should I log this evening of death?

I've never heard of the restaurant so I can't comment on the menu.

Have you searched online to see if they have a website that lists their nutritional information? That would be a great starting point as you will be able to look through the menu to see what best fits in your day. Do you have time before or after to get some exercise in so you can earn an extra few calories to use?

Be careful with the salads (ask for dressing on the side) as some salads have more fat and calories than a Big Mac!

Good luck! One dinner won't kill your progress if you are careful about it.

I would order fish, chicken, or steak if you must. If you get a salad order balsamic dressing instead of the fatty ranch or other options. Don't eat the bread at the begining of the meal (not sure what they serve there so I'm just throwing some ideas out) and order veggies as a side instead of a baked potato with butter and sour cream. When you order write down what you go and about how much. The just log it under "generic steak" chicken or fish. You won't get the exact amount of cals, but you will have a decent idea of how much you ate.

Agree. Search for the restaurant name and "nutrition" and find the nutritional values of their menu and decide ahead of time what you will order. Log it now so you know exactly what the impact will be.

Do you have a deficit from the past couple of days? When things like this occur, and I think I'll be in a similar boat tonight, I start looking at the week as a whole. As long as it balances out in weekly totals, you will stay on target for your goal.

Another way to deal with restaurants with excessive portion sizes is to order a steak and a box. When dinner arrives, immediately cut your steak in half and box it. You will have dinner for the next day as well :)

It's a buffet style restaurant so I can get whatever. Their site doesn't have nutritional information because it varies depending on who's hand makes it. Buffets scare me so much! I'm going to get a big o'l salad with fat free ranch and stick to grilled or steamed things and lots of veggies. Hope that works. And I'm going to the gym tonight even though I hadn't planned on it. Pilates won't be enough. LOL

Avoid sauces, especially sweet ones. They hide a ton of calories. Look for steamed and grilled items with no sauce. Salad is a must at a buffet! Get in a good plate of that first, you won't be as hungry for the rest! Remember, 1/2 plate good veggies, the rest can be other stuff.

Ah, buffet! Start with salad, yes, and also drink plenty of water. Eat slowly so that your body can start to feel full when it is full, instead of suddenly getting the Ohgodmystomachhurtsletmecurlupanddie feeling.

their salad bar is very nice and also i love the variety of fruit that they have on the salad bar also... Its so hard when friends ask you to go out to eat.. I know last night i went out with friends and i ordered grilled chicken and today when i weighed in it didn't affect my weight so i hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy your meal.

If you don't think you'll be able to handle a buffet, then perhaps you should suggest another restaurant? Personally, I try not to put myself in situations that I know are tempting, however you do have some options.

When I'm at a buffet, I head straight to the fish side. If they have a cod, or salmon, I get that. Then i'm off to the veges, and load up on that and salad. You don't have to eat the mac 'n cheese or any of the other fattening foods. I know it's hard, but it really is a lifestyle change and this would be a good place to start. Good luck!!! :)

I agree that it is a lifestyle change and I do just fine when cooking at home. But, I will not eat at home every day for the rest of my life. So, while buffets are scary, they are a reality and with the American motto "More is always better" they will not be phasing out anytime soon. So I need to learn what to eat there. I appreciate all the info :flowerforyou: . I suppose I'll just do my best to log correctly and kick my own butt at the gym tonight to make up for it.
