I see at times, in the short time I've been here, posts about feelings of uncertainty, fear, and feelings of being uncomfortable in getting plugged in at a new gym, aerobics class or other fitness class because of seeing the "skinny" people. It's very common to have that "fish out of water" feeling when starting something new. Realize though, many of the skinny people or those in good shape have been doing this for years which proves that you are in the right place doing the right things because the proof is all around you. If I went to a gym or activity where the majority were out of shape, I'd have serious questions about the validity of it. Also, some of the people you see there are just naturally fit and were born with that body type (sigh, I know). However, look at it this way. What is more impressive and worthy of admiration? Someone born into wealth or someone who worked hard for it? The answer is obvious. Being born thin and being able to keep a low maintenance body is easy, and rare. Working toward a goal and reaching it then setting and reaching goal after goal until you are eventually where you want to be gives inspiration, hope and motivation to everyone you meet. That being said, you gotta fight those fears and eventually your friends, co-workers and most importantly, YOU will notice you've become a totally new person full of certainty, are fearless and comfortable with the new you. I hope this helps!

I used to think that to get out of even going and trying. Now I belong to a recreation center and regularly use the pool. This allows me exercise longer and more safely due to size and knee issues. I'm surprised how many others are right there with me just as big and out of shape as I am. Yeah there are the skinnier and fit people and they have never been anything but welcoming and kind. I remember reading a while ago that people are so busy worrying about you think of them, they don't have time to think about you.
