Back in early December I asked my mum to buy me a second set of pyjamas from her local store as my local was out of "mediums." Mum said "Are those the ones you had on the other morning? Aren't they a little tight? Perhaps I should get the large?" This was the comment that started my weight loss journey and has seen me lose 10kg in a 100 days.

I've always thought of myself of "big" but never particularly "fat". I have a large frame (17cm/6.7inches wrist circumference) and walked around oblivious stating "I'm lucky I have a big frame, I carry weight well." Now I wish I could go back and say to my old self, just because you can, doesn't mean you should! I used to weigh ~70kg at 17/18 yo (154.5lb) and on Dec 10 2011 I weighed 82.6kg (182lb) at 25 years old. (For reference I'm 175cm/5'9")

Here's me at 17 in my highschool ball dress. I thought I was "big" then (crazy teenage brain!!)... I haven't been able to wear it since as IT got too tight...

This is me at my heaviest.

And this is me today back in my ball gown (please excuse the bed hair, lack of make up, bins in the background etc!). I don't have heels on in this pic hence why I look taller in the first!

And here is me in another dress I bought ~18 months ago that was really too tight around my chest, bum and thighs at that time (so everywhere!?) but it was half price at Espirit! I slipped it on today and was so excited to feel how well it fit! It's actually loose in the areas it was tight before! (Also no makeup and bed hair in this one but I was too excited to worry about that stuff!)

How I did it:
I started out on 1200 cals per day and lost 2 kilos in the first week but felt hungry and was thinking about food all the time! Mid-December I upped to 1500-1600 cals plus exercise calories after doing a lot of reading and deciding that it wasn't healthy to eat below my BMR. Now I'm up to 1800 cals/day plus exercise calories as I'm 5-6 pounds from my original goal weight and want to transition slowly. Next I plan on starting weight training. In my hundred days I have never felt deprived, I've eaten cake, chips, icecream and had the occasional alcoholic beverage but all in moderation. I've tried to go to the gym 3-4 times a week for 30-45 minutes each session. I also bought a Fitbit in February which has allowed me to focus on moving more in my day to day life. My advice to anyone starting out or feeling discouraged, remember that your weight loss journey is a marathon not a sprint! The weight didn't just go on overnight and it won't come off that way either. I'm the happiest, fittest and healthiest I think I've EVER been which is absolutely the best part about this journey!

I've discussed my journey with colleagues and patients alike and know that I've been able to encourage others to make healthy changes in their lives. I'm always happy to have new friends so send me a request if you're looking for support!

Wow, you have done so well!!! You look fantastic - it's amazing the difference 10 kilos can make :) Awesome, awesome work!!!!! :) I agree that it has to be sustainable. I would rather have a higher cal count and be able to keep it up than to lose a few kilos then give because I am starving!!! I have have going since November 1st.........11.2 kilos down and feeling really good. Keep up the great work!!! :)

Fantastic work! your story is just about exactly the same as mine... I am tall (6ft) and quite broad, so whenever i put on weight, i was told "never mind, at least you carry it well". 4 years, a desk job, no longer involved in intense sports training, and 12kg later and it's finally time to do something. your pictures are incredible, and exactly the motivation i need. thanks so much :)

Thanks all :) I was having a really low day yesterday due to a illness in the family and in turn I was feeling quite down on myself. This morning I realised I'd hit the 10kg milestone a few days ago and I decided to try on a few dresses from the back of the wardrobe. I never expected everything to fit, and in fact, fit better than when I bought it! In the past I'd wear a few of the dresses with 'spanx' style underwear to smooth and suck everything in. This morning, I just had a normal pair of briefs on. All my lumps and bumps have shrunk/gone!

Great job! I'm so glad you decided to lose slower. I'm sure you're a real role model to many of your patients. I agree the dress looks better now than then :)
