lemon water?

Hi,

I've heard that adding lemon to water will help make it not so boring, taste better and has other benefits. I'm having a hard time getting enough water in every day and would like to try adding lemon to my water. My question is probably silly and might seem obvious, but what's the best way to do this?

Any other suggestions regarding water?

Thanks.

I have yet to get sick of drinking water. What I do is I buy the "real lemon" and "real lime" natural juice and put it in my water. No added sugar, carbs, fat, nothing. It makes water to me taste like a treat more than a chore.
  • i have this stuff called true lemon and true lime they also have true orange its dehydrated fruit juice. in a little pack simular to a sugar packet really go and if you add a bit of a sweetner to taste if you want they call it pale lemonade where i work i drink it all the time
  • Awesome! Thanks! I might check out the True Lemon and True Lime stuff if I can find in my grocery store. I tried the slicing squeezing lemon thing but wasn't as effective and I can't remember if I dropped the lemon in or not, and the rest of the lemon went to waste . I've heard of a lemon slicer thing but I don't want to spend money on this issue :)

    You mean a knife?

The fake lemon stuff (powders and bottled juice) is way more expensive than a lemon. I get three days worth of lemon slices. You are drinking more than one glass of water a day, right?

If you slice the lemon all at once, and then put the rest of the slices in the fridge...they won't go bad and you can use the rest of the lemon that way...

Or you could juice the lemon before hand and put the juice in the fridge. It's still cheaper.

I have a dietician friend that told me to have hot or at least warm 8 oz of water with half a squeezed lemon. Have it very first thing in the AM. You can get a lemon squeeze or twister at most dollar stores. She said it I'd like a healthy cleanse. So good for your bowels. And it would aid in my weight loss. Cheap and healthy. I buy lemons bulk in the bag.

depends on where you live- if lemons are $1 but the true lemon is $1.99+tax for a box, we're coming out ahead with the true lemon.

I *do* find that lemon/lime in my water helps me drink more. Also, for some weird reason I drink more when it's out of a straw.

In my case the price is way better for the bottle. A bottle is about 4 dollars after tax and has the same juice equivalency as 32-34 lemons. A lemon is roughly 49 cents each. That is here in Canada so I don't know about anywhere else. And with the juice there is none of that having to worry about seeds, or a slimy peel.
  • I use Lemon Juice that comes in bottles it's pre squeezed and Totally natural

When using real lemons in warm water, roll the lemon a few times on the preparation board before you slice it, this breaks up the juice cells and more lemon juice per slice. After slicing wrap in cling film and store in fridge. One lemon usually lasts a week.

Well lime juice not lemon in lukewarm water with a little honey in am is an age old regimen followed by many Indians. For past 2 years instead of honey I use a sweetner called Jaggery powder which is sometimes got in indian stores. Jaggery has many minerals and full of iron the only problem is it has to be mixed in warm water and it is usually in a solid form so one has to powder it/scrap it. Thanks to Dr. Oz I also learnt that lime has ovarian cancer preventing qualities.

I personally don't like the taste of lemon in my water, but to each their own. I am still working on my full 8 glasses a day, I have figured that one 16oz water bottle is equal to two glasses. So if you could manage 4 bottles day, you'd be set. I like to throw mine in the freezer and get them super cold almost frozen some times you just can't beat a half frozen bottle of water. Some times I add some flavoring to it like the crystal lite stuff.

I juice 2 lemons in the morning and add them to my liter of water. I drink between 3-4 liters of water a day anyway, and the lemon in the morning wakes me up really well! I like Meyer lemons, they're sweeter, but any fresh lemon will do!

I like to use fresh lemon but I don't always have one, and I don't take them to work anyway. The Minute Maid frozen 100% juice is real juice (I think it tastes much fresher than the RealLemon bottles), and even once it's defrosted it lasts quite a while. (The package says it's equal to about 6-7 lemons, I think.) I keep one bottle at home and one in the fridge at work.

Other fruits work well too - melon, strawberries, orange slices - you don't need much to make a difference in the taste of the water. We were staying in a Sheraton hotel last weekend, and they kept a big urn of water in the lobby for guests that had fruit and ice in it - very refreshing. Even cucumber slices make a difference - that's what my chemo nurse suggested and it really helped at a time when not much tasted good! Just experiment and you'll find one/several you like.
  • I agree with MummyDB about the lemon in the warm water,i had forgot that i was suppose to be doing this,i had read this in JJ Smith book,Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out.

My mom loves True lemon but in a pinch she will use unsweetened lemon kool-aid. I prefer to use fresh cut limes and lemons. I always have my kitchen stocked with a few =]

If you get tired of lemon, raw ginger is a good flavoring agent, too. Get a small piece of ginger root, peel and cut into roughly 1/2 inch cubes. Put one or two in your water bottle. Or, if you keep a pitcher in the fridge, put in several large cubes. I love it.
  • walmart sell the true lemon near the drink stick mixes the other stuff i got at woodmans i dont know if the orginal poster has one near her ( we live in the same state) but you get 30 pack and they are convient to take along if your busy at work and going other places like me. I dont think carrying a lemon and knife in my purse would be a smart move LOL

I make ice cubes out of different juices. I add them to my water. It flavors the water and helps keep it cool. Little to no calories either.

I have issues squeezing lemons into bottles =(. I may spring for one of those citrus juicer things. I either get seeds in my water, or spray lemon juice everywhere.

I tried ReaLemon juice that you buy in the store, turns out its pasteurized and appears to have no vitamin C in it, total bummer.
