Retaining water

Hi guys... I probably have a really dumb questions for you.... but here goes.

Yesterday was a carry in here at work, and I behaved really well. I was close to my maximum sodium intake for the day, but I didn't go over. Today, I was over by 64. I've not really been thirsty today, but I've been trying to force down the water, just for the obvious high sodium.

My question is: How long does it take a body to show signs of retaining water? is it "normally" pretty quick, take overnight, or does it really just depend on the individual? My fingers and feet are so tight feeling that they really do feel like the skin could split, and the worst part about it: I'm supposed to be working out tonight after I get done with work (in about an hour). My feet are going to hurt!

Any additional advice you could give would be SO appreciated! Thanks!!!!

depends on what I eat. Splenda makes me retain water and the next day I will wake up huge. Pork makes me retain water in just a few hours. With hormones it can seem instantaneous.

I help my body overcome this with water and natural diuretics like broccoli
