Gaining weight when work out level increases - why why why

Can anyone tell my why when i increase the intensity of my workout i gain a few pounds - this time i have gained 5 pounds. This is driving me nuts and isn't doing too much for my level of dedication either. I am working through a set of exercise DVDs where you increase the intensity every 3 weeks. Every time i move to another level i gain a few pounds. Any help and advice is appreciated.:sad:
