I know this journey has definitely a lifestyle change VS a "diet"... I find that as long as I can deny the first few cravings I am fine, but even if I think it is OK to have a "little" it revs up those snacking cravings. I had been doing great until the last couple of weeks, when I have been craving snacks and feel like I could eat myself out of house and home. Now granted, I have not gained the last two weeks, but I have not lost as much as I have been tracking in the past (I had been losing anywhere between 2 and 2.6 lbs a week, last week it was only 1 lb). Any inspiration or words of wisdom? I am 4 lbs away from my originally set goal at this point, and I wonder if because I am so close I am somehow sub-conciously "allowing" myself to "be bad".

I say have a day that you allow yourself some snacks, get it out of your system and then wake up refreshed and anew the following day. I have days where I just know that based on the circumstances I just need to be over it, because it won't hurt me that much in the long run as long as I limit it to that day/afternoon/evening. I call it taking the scenic route.

Thanks for the response -- I have tried do that, that is one thing I have allowed myself over the past couple weeks that I almost wonder if that is one reason I am having a harder time. Earlier in my weight loss journey, I was much more rigorous about not eating really any junk, but now that I have, I have a harder time staying away from it. I also know better than to keep it in the house at all... As long as it is something that does not appeal to me, I am fine; but, if it is something I know I like, it is harder to keep out of it.

Maybe try replacement snacks. I saw a commercial for chocolate special K, maybe that would be better than just eating chocolate. What exactly are you craving?
  • If you are only 4 pounds away from your goal, maybe that means you just have to suck it up and pound it out for a few more weeks, then go into maintenance mode and allow more snacking. I've heard that during those last few pounds is when you have to be super diligent about logging everything and eating clean.
That said, I know exactly how you feel. I'll just get snacky and feel like I could eat anything and everything. What really gets me in trouble is that I will usually finish the bag of whatever the snack is, not just one serving. Or I'll eat one small snack, not feel satisfied, find another, etc. until I've eaten a meals worth of calories or more. I keep 100 calorie kettle corn and that satisfies the sweet/crunch craving pretty well. I also love rice cakes. I tend to crave crunchy things, so I have to avoid convenience stores or any place where I am likely to grab a bag of chips and eat the whole thing in the car.
