Any Type 1 Diabetics?

Well, i'm one and things just don't work that well for me in the weight loss category. Most days I eat the recommended amount of calories or a little under. But then i'll get a low blood sugar and have to chug a juice drink and that blows me out of the water. It's so frustrating! I feel like i'm defeating the purpose of working out if I have to carb up before I work out.
Since the dreaded menopause i've gained 15lbs that need to find somewhere else to live.
I guess i'm just venting, but if there are any T1's out there that have been/going through this...HELP!

Im not a true diabetic but I do have Diabetes Insipidus....newly diagnosed about 10 months. Its more of a water loss problem..have to take medicine or I will dehydrate! Also doing the menapause thing! I have been dieting off and on all my life and have always been able to lose weight successfully ....until now....No matter what amount calories I take in...to much or too little,,the scale moves by 1/2 pound at most. I havent found any helpful advice on what else to try . I guess more exercise? but like you I must drink alot and sometimes water just doesnt cut it. Help!0

I have type one diabetes - I use an insulin pump though, so i just take it off an hour before i exercise and my blood sugar doesn't drop.
When i first started running i had the same problem as you, my blood sugars would drop drastically right after - maybe as your endocrinologist for help? My doctor is the one who recommended i take off the insulin pump an hour before exercise rather than just during exercises, which i had been doing.0 -
I pump too, an MM for the last 10 years. I cut my basal by 50% 2 hours before working out until 1 hour after and I still go low. I have been going back and forth with this problem with my endo and the CDE for the last couple of years. I try to make sure I don't have a lot of insulin on board while working out. I know there is a science to it, I just can't find it.0

yea there definitely is a science to it, but at the same time everyone's body reacts differently. I feel like its mostly trial and error when trying to balance food and exercise - for me at least, ha.
Maybe try eating complex carbs before exercise - or stopping your basal entirely beforehand? Also, you could try eating glucose tablets instead of juice so you don't drink too much and spike your blood sugar by accident.

I used to use glucose tabs but I drop so quick and low without working out that I never get enough of them chewed as i'm dropping. Right now i'm 76 from 141 30 minutes ago, so the first juice of the day for me so I can drive home. Gotta add that to my calories for the day. LOL We'll see if I get a chance to work out today.0
