Accuracy of digital scales

I'm not sure how typical this is, but I've just compared my weight on the scales I've been using for a couple of years with a newly purchased set. Both are 'digital' and have been tested side by side on a level bathroom floor. I was surprised to find that they differ in their measurement by as much as 0.6kg (1.3lbs).
The older scales are giving the lower measurement and at the end of the day its the relative change that matters most...but it still seems like a big big difference.
I bought the new scales whilst on holiday as I was paranoid that I'd been eating more than was being compensated for by my daily skiiing - the 0.6kg difference certainly reinforced my paranoia!
