Balancing Life

As we all continue on our fitness journey, we must remember to balance all areas of our life. While becoming fit and taking care of our health is important, we must also remember other important areas of our life such as family, friends, school, life goals, church or worship, work and anything else that I have not mentioned. We must especially remember our spouses or significant others. It is so easy to get off track and to forget about them. Especially, if they don't need to workout or choose not to. I saw a blog three days ago and the primary complaint was people who had spouses or significant others that were not on board with their program. Some of them could not understand why we take losing weight so serious. Losing weight is a serious matter. If you approached fitness casually chances are you probably will not be successful. Keeping our love one happy is also a serious matter which requires our attention. Neglect overtime could lead to broke relationships or at the least misunderstandings. My point in this blog is to remind us to remember that our relationships are just as important as our health and that we have to find ways to maintain a balanced life.
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Workout while your love ones are busy. I normally workout while my wife is at work and try to finish before she returns.
2. Workout together. I have one scheduled day that I workout with my wife. It is usually on Friday. I allowed nothing or no one to interrupt that scheduled workout.
3. Limit conversation. Try not to talk about fitness all the time. You can tell when you have stayed on the subject too long when there is silence or a blank stare.
4. Do other things. Remember to go to the movies, the library, over to a friend's place, see relatives and do your other hobbies. Don't wrap everything around fitness.
5. Take a break. From time to time give your body a rest from the hard stuff. If you have been pushing it ...it may be time for something like yoga or pilates or a simple walk.
Remember a good life is a balanced life. Are you in need of some balance? I'm sure we all can use some.
