Heart rate monitor or exercise equipment?

I was on the treadmill and the calories it read was 150 less than my hrm. Which one is right?

I'd trust the HRM more than the machine, since the machines are often really far off. If you want to you can find your pulse and check to see if the monitor is reading your heart rate correctly.0

Did you have your hands on the heart rate monitor on the exercise equipment the whole time? Do you have a heart rate monitor that you have to touch every now and then to get a reading?0

Treadmill is set to general guidlines. HRM is set to your specifics. I'd choose the HRM.0

I'm very surprised to hear that the Treadmill was lower than the heartrate monitor. That rarely happens for me. In my opinion, the heartrate monitor is a better judge of your burn than the Equipment is. But that's just me :happy:0

If you have a good HRM with a chest strap I would go with the HRM reading.....
At my gym the ellipticals give me double the reading of my HRM, the bike is pretty spot on, and the treadmil is slightly less than HRM - so no consistent explanation for the variations....0 -
I bought a HRM because I couldn't lead myself to believe that I burned so many calories on my elliptical. Now, I notice the same large difference. I go with the HRM because I feel it gets the accurate heart rate with the strap on.0

If your HRM has a proper-fitting chest strap and you entered your stats correctly, I would use that number. If not, I'd go with the machine. If in doubt, I go with the smaller number so that I don't risk overeating if I choose to eat my exercise cals back.0

If you have a GOOD HRM with a chest strap and you are able to program in your age, gender, height, weight -- use the HRM.

HRM!!! When I first started working out the machine was way higher. Now my HRM is way higher. Shows how much more fit you are!!!0

How should it be fit properly? As someone who has worn a bra since age 12, I can barely tell it's there. The watch hasn't complained about the signal.0 -
My experience says neither. They're both based on algorithms that constitute an educated guess.0
