Ok I know this has been done before but My old HRM died yesterday and I've decided to get a decent one. I Have settled on a polar HRM but don't know which model. It's a toss up between the FT4, FT6 & FT40. Think I prefer the FT40 but I want to know does anyone else have it and what is it like before I spend the money?

Or even any other brands that are of the same quality but better value. I'm in Ireland so would have to take into account postage on top of price

I have the FT4 and love it. Actually the battery was low and not reading 2 days ago and I took it to a regular watch shop to get the strap battery changed and the watch battery changed. The guy was telling me that some HRM's do not have access to the batteries like the one. I think that's a major benefit because I didn't want to send it to Polar and be without it for days! I recommend Polar F4 all the way!

I don't have any experience with the Polars, but hubby bought me a Garmin Forerunner for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I really don't know how I ever did anything before it. LOL I've headed to the gym before and realized I didn't have the strap or the watch and will turn around and go get it...even if I'm only a minute or two from the gym! It was definitely worth the money for hubby and he's the cheapest man alive. He brags about how good his investment is! :-)

I like all polar products and out of those i'd go with the ft-40. Have you considered a HRM wit a GPS? Timex makes a pretty good one for under $200. Something to consider if price is about the same. And yes the Garmins are also awesome except for the 405.

I've had my FT40 for about a week and I quite like it. It has a fitness test that is supposed to analyze the efficiency of your body in using oxygen (I think). I'm not sure how helpful that'll be over time. It also records my last 60 or so workouts, but I only ever look at the last 3 workouts because at that point I've already logged them in MFP.

I'm not sure what other differences there are between the FT40 and the other models you mentioned. I do like the FT40, though.

I normally use my iPhone to listen to music and use the "imap my run" app for gps but it uses up the battery quicker so it might be an option. I've seen some with pedometers too but they haven't had great reviews

I've got an FT4. I generally like it, but I don't like the fact you can't set your resting heart rate. Mine is naturally high (narrow rib cage - had ultrasounds, etc when I was young to investigate it), so the calories estimates I get for doing anything end up high.

It's not a huge problem (I just halve the calorie estimates when I enter them), but I'd recommend getting one of the more expensive models that lets you set the resting rate.
