Good or Bad?

Hi, I'm a newbie...
I just started on the 20th of this month, I am staying within my Goals, may go over on my protein. Even trying to use up my "earned" calories and eating healthier. I cut out the candy bars, chips and such. I have lost 4 pounds so far. Is this good or bad? My goal is to lose 1 pound a week. Is this just water weight I'm losing? Any input would be great. I have read some about losing muscle and not fat...don't want to do that. Thanks

Keep up the good work. Everyone loses fast in the beginning. Enjoy it now because it will slow. Congratulations.

Great work so far! It's likely just water weight. The first few weeks for me were like that.. Just keep doing what you are doing right now. The weight will definitely come off.

    You're doing great.
Simply cutting out the junk food is a huge step. Your body will love you for it!

We all would love to see the scale go down at a rapid rate, but don't be a slave of the scale. Eat healthy, exercise and every week try on a pair of jeans that are a size smaller than what you're wearing now. I'm down from a size 24 to a 16 and I have a pair of 14's that are waiting for me. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the feed back...I do find myself hungry sometimes and wonder if I'm not eating enough. I eat 6 times a day. Find it hard to find healthy foods to eat that are high in calories and some carbs, but no fat or protein. I go over on protein but not wanting to on fat. But I am researching and will figure it out. Thanks again!!! (c:

As far as I know, all you've got to work with for calories are refined carbs (sugars, white flour, etc), unrefined carbs (whole wheat, veggies and fruit, oatmeal, etc), fat, and protein. I try to keep down the refined carbs in my diet, up the unrefined carbs, eat mostly healthier fats (nuts, avocado and other veggie fats), limit meat and choose poultry or fish or beans for protein. I avoid fried foods. I severely limit sugary treats, fruit juices, dried fruits, other sources of sugar ... they're treats, which means once in a while. That's about it.

I also try not to obsess about the scale and about the numbers in MFP; if I go over on one of the numbers, no big deal. It's the overall trend and the lifestyle change you're making that matters, not the numbers on any particular day. I weigh myself maybe once every two weeks. That's what works for me.

By the way, I tend to like snacks with some good fat and/or protein: a small handful of nuts, an avocado, some Laughing Cow cheese with Rye Krisp. Fats and proteins are much more satisfying. And feeling satisfied means less likely to want something else.

I think that's pretty normal! Especially if you are aiming to lose a good amount, the first stages seem to go really fast for a lot of people. Just don't be disenheartened if in a coupla months your rate of loss slows right back down, as that's pretty much normal too.
