How much exercise should you count?

I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't consider the first 15mins of your cardio to burn any calories, and just wondered if anyone had any scientific evidence of this or at least good reason. You burn calories all day long, so why would you not burn any calories in the first 15mins of your cardio workout?

But, if it is the case that if you do 45mins of cardio you are actually only burning 30mins worth of calories, does that mean you should always keep that in mind when adding workout calories to your day? Or is it just good sense to assume that if you don't wear an HRM or trust MFP estimation of the amount of calories you burn during a specific workout, leaving 15mins off your workout is the norm and then you'll actually, hopefully, underestimate your calories?

I can get a good intense cardio workout in in under 15 miuntes, especially doing HIIT / tabata workouts. Not sure why they would say to not count the first 15 minutes, unless maybe you were doing really light steady state effort (like the people I see on the gym practically falling asleep on the exercise bikes going at a very leisurely pace.

You def. burn calories no matter how long you work out. I think 15 minutes is more the cut-off for when you begin burning fat...

Sounds ridiculous. If someone can run a 1 1/2 - 2 miles in 15 minutes....does that mean it doesn't count?

I count every minute that I do cardio...in those 15 min, depending on what you're doing, you can easily burn 100 calories. And I'm definitely counting those 100 calories!
