Too many eggs?

I think I may be eating too many eggs. I have been having 2 a day for breakfast on toast. Poached in the microwave, so no oil, but still, you hear horror stories about eggs being bad for your cholesterol.

Anyone have any insight? I will be starting to go to the gym and working out at least 4 times a week now, so should hopefully be using the protein for my muscles.

Dietary cholesterol has almost nothing to do with blood cholesterol levels unless you are one of the very few people that it does. Go get your cholesterol levels tested. If you're normal, you should be fine.

I eat 3 eggs for breakfast and sometimes eat more for lunch or dinner or snacks. Blood cholesterol is perfect.

The verdict on eggs seems to change every other day of the week. I usually do 2-3 eggs and 5-6 egg whites for breakfast.

I eat eggs every single day. There are days when I have 6. My cholesterol is perfect.

Ooh, ok. I won't worry about my 2 eggs a day.

I have about 3 a day. I heard saturated fat is what increases our cholesterol levels in our blood.

You might want to read a bit from this site:

    http://www.ocaheart.com/patient_services/patient_education/guides/What_Affects_Blood_Cholesterol_Levels.asp

It tells you what affects your cholesterol levels in your blood.

To me, the smart thing to do if you want to keep eating lots of eggs, is to keep close track of your blood level cholesterol (get blood work done every 3 to 6 months) and have an open discussion about it with your doctor. If your blood cholesterol is high, stop eating the egg yolks and stick to the whites. Then if your blood cholesterol goes down after you've stopped eating the yolks, you will know that, for you, the cholesterol in eggs does affect your bloos cholesterol.

What I definitely would not do is base my medical decisions on what some unknown person says... either on this site or any other site.

The arguments that the cholesterol in eggs does not affect your blood cholesterol all seem to come from an article written in the UK by Dr Juliet Gray and Dr Bruce Griffin. The National Health Serice in the UK had this to say about Dr Gray's and Dr Bruce's article:
"This is a narrative review and did not include a description of the methods that were used. It is, therefore, not possible to be sure that the research took into account all relevant research, both positive and negative.
The criteria for selecting and assessing the quality of the individual studies that were included are not reported. This means that the reader cannot judge the evidence themself, but must rely on the authors’ judgements about the reliability and relevance of these studies."
The good doctors also freely state in that article that they "are both independent advisors to the British Egg Industry Council on scientific issues." This means that they are at least partially funded by the egg industry.

    Here's a link to the article: http://www.ovosbrasil.com.br/download/ovos e colesterol desvandendando mitos.pdf

Still, the National Health Service goes on to at least partially agree with the article "However, it is highly likely that the original research which advised limiting egg consumption was faulty." This means that eggs, eaten in moderation, MAY not be bad for you as was originally thought.

Here's a link to the NHS review of the article: http://www.nhs.uk/news/2009/02February/Pages/Eggsafety.aspx

Bottom line: think for yourself. Do your own research. Find reputable medical studies upon which to base your health choices. And then discuss them with your doctor.
