Okay all, I figured out (in the matter of 2 days) that I have a sugar problem.
I also love pancakes...although I only eat them on weekends.
What is a healthy alternative to syrup that you love? Please share your ideas, I HAVE to cut back on the sugar.
Thanks for your thoughts!
LynnieTC

PS - I'm not a fan of sugar substitues although I do have stevia on hand.

Look to the types of foods you eat. Make sure they are as natural as possible. Avoid all the processed junk because it has tons of sugar (high fructose corn syrup mostly) added to it.
Personally, I cannot use the sugar free syrups, they taste horrible! I use lite pancake syrup when I have it. My personal favorite is the Aunt Jemima Butter Lite. However, you have to cut back how much you have in general, even with the lite varieties.
If most of your other sugar comes from fruits and veggies, don't worry about it. Just limit the processed white sugar and the corn syrup based sugars as much as you can. I use stevia in my coffee, but my creamers are loaded with high fructose corn syrup. But they are literally my only splurge most of the time. I rarely, if ever, eat pancakes or waffles anymore, as I'm trying to limit my starch intakes too.

If you have to have syrup, why not try putting a couple of tbsp in a separate dish and dipping each piece individually. You still get the sweet taste but since it doesn't disappear into the pancake you can control how much you eat.

    All fruit jam.
Or just crush your own fruit up. If you feel it needs some sugar then put just a little in. You will find that as you get used to not adding so much sugar to your food that fruit alone is plenty sweet.

I like peanut butter on mine. It's definitely not sweet but I get some protein with my carbcakes.

P.S. I need a big glass of milk or water with them.
    Good luck!

Fresh fruit is yummy on pancakes :)

    I also agree with lizard:

I put sugar in my coffee...but I only have 1 cup on the weekend so I splurge :)

Wow, good idea. I may have to try this! I will also be cutting back on my beloved "Buttermilk" pancakes.

I love peanut butter and syrup together, but need to cut back. So, I may try peanut butter...but it sounds like it may be a bit dry. Big glass of milk will def be in order :) Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for your comment. My thought was that fruit would be great too...just as much sugar - even if it is natural. Well, fruit sugar vs. syrup....Is there a difference to your body? Does one cause a weight factor more than the other? I'll have to research.

I realized 7 years ago that I have a real problem with sugar - think drug or alcohol addict - only with sugar. Once I start I literally cannot stop until the food is gone. A site I found really helpful is radiantrecovery.com. Good luck!

I do lots of organic and non processed foods...the thing that makes me stumble is always going overboard even though it doesn't feel like it. Syrup, orange juice, jelly, fruit, coffee flavoring (organic w/o corn syrup), fruit, etc. I didn't realize how quickly the sugar all adds up. I can easily eat all of the above on any given day. I guess my new approach needs to limit my sugar intake to a little tiny bit each meal????

Great idea! I'm going to use that trick with my lo-cal,lo-fat French toast! Syrup is a must and I tend to drown everything on the plate with it. This will cut down on it a lot. Thanks
