I am just curious to know if you combine steady state cardio with a 4 minute tabata style format say 5 minutes into the steady state and then continue with steady state for the remainder of an hour will the steady state cancel out the benefit of the tabata? Or will you receive the benefit of both? I know that a pro to doing tabata is that you get more benefit in 4 min. than you do in 60 min of steady state, and doing both is probably overdoing it but just curious about the combo. Anyone experimented with this or familiar with it please comment.

I seem to recall that in the study which demonstrated the efficacy of tabatas, they were comparing two groups that both did steady-state training, and one group also did tabatas. Basically what they found is that adding in the interval training (tabatas) really helped the athletes. Tabatas are great, but I think they work best in conjunction with steady state.
Maybe someone else is more familiar with this.0
