Cutting diet guidelines

I'm just starting a cutting diet and I'm trying to work the kinks out. I am finding it hard to get all my protein in without going over on my fat and carbs. Which is more important; hitting the total grams of protein and maybe going over a little in other areas, or keeping the fat and carbohydrate low even if you don't hit the protein goal? The formula I'm attempting to use is 1.4g protein/pound, 30% of daily calories from fat, and the remainder of the daily calories from carbs.
