Just curious, as I have never tried protein powders before - I am considering the Optimum Nutrition brand -

Basically, my question is - will drinking this be detrimental to a weight loss program? I do strength training 2-3x a week and circuit training daily with the 30 ds (in addition to 4x a week cardio interval training), eating a net of at least 1200 cal a day (yes, I am working on upping this number ^_^ - I was an under eater before joining MFP).

Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thought I'd ask before I order, in case there are other protein supps people know of that are better for someone trying to lose body fat and build muscle:)

protein is protein, as far as I'm concerned one brand is as good as another as far as WPI goes... for WPC just check and make sure it is still a very high % of protein compared to other macronutrients.

protein supplements are useful to get your total calories up or just to get your % of protein up. Being on such low calories as you are, it's probably not a terrible idea to take a supplement... in fact just checking your activity level I would say yes, definitely take at least one if not 2 a day.
