How Much to Eat - CONFUSED!!!

Ok, I need some help here - all this BMR stuff has me completely confused....I need to drop about 40-50 pounds. I currently weight 183. I'm a female - 43. I'm doing Insanity - on week 2 and have not dropped the first pound. I have no clue what I'm doing here.....can someone help me out with this? One calculator I ran said I need to eat 2600 calories less 500 to lose weight, and MFP is telling me 1200 calories and eat back my burned calories from exercise which puts me just under 1600 calories per day. This is making me nuts. Is there an easy way to figure this out?
