Breastfeeding - How should I adjust my calories accordingly.

Wondering how to tweak my goals to account for the fact that I'm burning calories daily breastfeeding. Or maybe this is an exercise option? (I'll have to check that out). Anyway, seeking general MFP advice from other breastfeeding mothers. How are you making this work for you?

Thanks...

It's actually a food option, not an exercise option. Search for breastfeeding under food, and it will give you plenty of options based on how often/much you breastfeed and how old the baby is.

Then it counts as negative calories (ie, you eat more!)

As a rule of thumb, if you're exclusively breastfeeding and your baby is under 6 months old, count an extra 500 calories per day on to your allowed. If you're not exclusively breastfeeding and/or your baby is older than 6 months, then count an extra 300 calories. That means you should be eating at least 1600-1800 a day.

Last time I looked, the 'add breastfeeding as food' thing asked you per how many oz of milk, which I found daft 'cos unless you're pumping for every feed, you simple can't tell!
