I hope I'm not setting myself up for disappointment. Anyone else feel that way when you started? How did you develop a positive attitude?

I have been excited many times before, and disappointed many times as well.
I think the important thing is to just take it one day at a time, and be proud of small accomplishments. And don't give up! Some days will be good, some days will be bad. But, if you stick with it over time, there is NO WAY you can disappoint yourself.

I'm still kind of new so I don't know if my advice would count...
But, I felt that way at first for sure. Especially since everything else failed for me.
Since I've joined this site and made the right portions and such, I feel a lot better internally and I personally believe that if you feel good inside that it will reflect on the outside.
Plus I look at a lot of other peoples before and after pictures and I want to one day to be able to do that.
I've always heard you could have anything if you set your mind to it and that's what I'm going by (:0 -
As long as you are putting in the effort, you won't disappoint yourself. As far as the positive attitude, still working on that one. You just have to remember that the weight will not fall off overnight, and that it is a process. I recommend taking measurements as well as using the scale. There are days where the scale will not move, but the inches are still going down. Hope this helps.0

I think the positive attitude has to come from within. Here you will find all the support you need to keep going, even through rough times. The most important thing to remember is that you WANT to make the change...do it for yourself!0

Yes! And some days since I have felt that way. This is what I decided...if this was for a friend or my kids I would do it and stick with them all the way. Well, it's for them and me too. You will need to keep yourself accountable here to stay on track. Take constructive instruction even when it is hard to chew. You can do this because there have been so many that have before that will cheer you on. Get on here and be honest but start everyday with the attitude that you are worth it. You really are. We can walk this journey together and it makes it a little easier. :bigsmile:0

Wow! I really appreciate all the response so far! It looks like there is a lot of support & good advice here and that's what I need! A friend from BUNCO told me about this site, and I just talked to her to tell her I signed up! That's the first step & I'm really going to try to do this! Thanks for the replies0

Sure you can! You just have to get up the courage to start. And you're here so that's great. And have some fun with it. Remember, it's eating and exercising, not starving and torture!
Find foods you like then eat them moderately. You're allowed to like what you eat! Then start walking. Add in some more exercise when walking stops getting your heart rate up. I may not 100% enjoy exercise, but I 100% enjoy how I feel physically and emotionally afterwards. So I hold onto that when I'm in the not-so-enjoyable phase of it. Then come here and let your friends tell you how great you're doing. That's totally fun.
You can do it. You just need to believe in yourself and believe that you are worth taking care of.0 -
Use the community for motivation. I have technically been a member for a year or so, but I almost never used mfp until February when I actually checked the "Community" tab and met some great people who motivate me every day. Get some good motivational friends and give yourself the attitude that you can do it. Remember that slow and steady wins the race and don't try to lose 50 pounds in a week. You can! If I can anybody can, hadn't even made the progress of a yo yo dieter up until I joined here!
Start by making the best choice you can for each meal, then start to look at each day as a whole and as others have said make sure you're eating things that you like or you won't stick with it. I had a few weeks where I had enough and went over on my calories then went WAY over on my calories, I was about to give up and realised I wanted the result too much to give up. SO I started again the next day, one meal at a time, and am back on track now. I did increase my calories, 1200 just wasn't working for me and was leaving me so hungry I couldn't make it last. I'm at a better level now and feeling better.
It's changing good habits for bad, if you want it to last, so one day at a time and you'll be in a good rhythm before you know it!0 -
Start small and doable.. for me, it was to MOVE (any way, any how, any place I can) for 1 hour, six days a week. Try it for a month.
Block time in your calendar for it and just do it.. for yourself..
See how you feel after a month.. then decide what you can do... ;-)
For me, I decided to run a half marathon in 5 months.. I hope you find an awesome goal for yourself!0
