Hip/Thigh causes discomfort when walking

Hi I am 262lbs and have been walking mainly for cardio but do go to the gym as well for strength training.

Sometimes when I am walking I have discomfort around my hip/top of thigh (outside) which manifests as a feeling that the area is unstable and it feels like it 'gives out' momentarily, and only with one leg. At no time do I feel I will fall or that I have to stop.

It doesn't feel to me as being actually in the hip joint but more in the area the thigh meets the lower pelvic area so may be muscular. It isn't continuous but occurs now and then and is just an inconvenience (some walks I do not have it at all).

It has not increased or decreased over the pas 2-3 months as I have increased my distances to almost 10km at a time.

I leg press 80kg and this issue does not happen during this (prone machine) and not during cycling only during walking.

Usually when I plan to complete an organised fun run, I take ibuprofen the night before and again on the morning of the walk plus I always take fishoil tablets daily and spirulina (plus a good multi vitamin). I have not had the issue during an organised fun walk.

I want to see if there are any specific exercises that trainers may recommend as perhaps I have a muscle weakness here (hip flexors, adductors, abductors have been suggested by friends?)

Thanks

Hi there, I would recommend that you go see a Physiotherapist. They are trained in all things muscle, ligaments and bones. Good Luck.
