A newborn baby requires, on average, 500 calories a day. My 2 month old is consuming 600 calories a day. My toddler and preschooler each need at least 1000 calories a day. A 10 year old needs no less than 1600 calories a day.

While children are constantly growing, they are considerably smaller than an adult. What makes so many people think they can lose weight in a healthy manner, let alone survive, on 1000 calories or less per day? It doesn't matter how much fat a person needs to burn, there is no reason they should eat less than a 3 year old!

    Yes! A post that should make sense to those who eat too little. Full grown adults cannot receive all the body needs on 1000 cals/day. Can people can lose weight this way- yes. Are they giving their body everything it needs to be healthy- no.

    Many people that have a LOT to lose can survive and thrive on less than 1,000 calories per day because the excess fat that is being burned from the body is being utilized as additional calories and there are plenty of fat soluable nutrients stored in the fat cells that is released when the fat cells shrink.

    True, you will lose weight eating under your BMR, but it isn't necessarily the healthiest option as it will cause a loss of lean muscle mass along with the fat mass.

    The best way to maintain lean muscle mass while losing weight is by eating above your BMR with enough nutrients while lifting weights and doing cardio consistently!

    And If you're a person with a lot to lose, it's better to see a doctor who will advice you how to do it SAFELY.

    But if you can get BETTER, HEALTHIER (no loose skin, no lean muscle loss, no nutrient depletion) FAT loss by just eating a smaller deficit, why are people so willing to undergo 'starvation' diets? People usually take the line of least resistance (easiest option) except when it comes to fat loss. I will never understand that reasoning.
