which HRM STRAP should I get?

So yay lucky me just won an f4 watch on good old ebay for the princely sum of £5 including p+p :) Now I'm trying to find myself the best deal for a strap to match it - there are several choices, so I wanted everybody to go ahead and give their opinions:

do I need a coded or uncoded transmitter? The uncoded are a bit cheaper, but is there a reason why splashing out more for a coded one would be better?

I'm also tossing up between the t31 and the wearlink 31 - the wearlink has removable batteries, but the t31 is waterproof (not that that really matters to me, I'm unlikely to be swimming!) Any thoughts on which is more comfortable? How necessary it would be to be able to replace batteries? Is one transmitter just more reliable than the other?

Or, are there any non polar options that I haven't considered that could suit me just as well?

TIA!

Chances are a non-polar transmitter won't work with your HRM.

Coded vs uncoded - depends if you're going to be wearing it at the gym or not. The idea behind the coded is that your HRM synchs to your transmitter and ignores others close by. I'm not familiar enough with the FT4 to know if you can go either way - my FT40 came with a coded transmitter.

At some point you will either have to replace the battery or replace the transmitter - the wearlink is more comfortable (I noticed Garmin's new chest straps are now very similar to the wearlink) and buying a battery is cheaper than buying a new transmitter.

I bought an ft40 on ebay a while back, but it didn't come with the transmitter or strap. I'm going to buy a coded one. Not investigated what's waterproof yet.

If you are going to be around other people who wear transmitters (racing...spinning classes and so on) a coded transmitter would be preferable as it will reduce the risk of interference from other transmitters close by.

From personal preference I would recommend the wearlink on - I find it more comfortable than the plain T31
