Exercising after Bunyon surgery

I recently had surgery on my left foot to remove Bunyons. I actually had them on both sides of the foot, so I now have two incisions to heal from. I'm in the walking boot now - which is MUCH better than crutches. My doctor says no exercise for 6 weeks. I'll follow my instructions but wanted to know if anyone out there has had the same surgery and what type of cardio were you able to do once you were given permission to exercise. At 6 weeks, I'll be just getting out of the boot and required to wear lace up shoes for another 6 weeks (this can include tennis shoes).
I like the Elliptical, hate running but walking on a treadmill is okay, really enjoy BodyPump class but that doesn't burn enough calories and things like lunges kill me. Not a lot to work with is it?
